Como os melómanos atentos saberão, está a gravar a integral das cantatas de Bach (&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.naxos.com/catalogue/item.asp?item_code=BIS-SACD-1621" target="blank" rel="_nofollow"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;vai no volume 37&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;, parecendo-me que ultrapassará os 50) e o que ouvi, até agora, deste grupo de gravações é, por regra, de primeiríssima escolha.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;A orquestra toca belissimamente, mas os solistas são de cortar a respiração (neste disco, o Super Audio vale a pena).&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;Há quem aponte a Suzuki um estilo demasiado melífluo, o que não me parece ajustado.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;É "grande", sólido, coerente e belissimamente executado. É o que há a saber. Doente, com HIV e outros males que se lhe associam, não quis parar. Aqui fica, retirada &lt;a href="http://theovergrownpath.blogspot.com/2006/12/rumour-about-aids-was-swelling.html" target="blank" rel="_nofollow"&gt;desta fonte&lt;/a&gt;, uma transcrição da sua &lt;a href="http://theovergrownpath.blogspot.com/2005/12/perfect-ethical-and-musical-christmas.html" target="blank" rel="_nofollow"&gt;biografia, escrita por Michel Proulx&lt;/a&gt;, nessa parte:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;"From then on, he did nothing but tour and record, and from records to concerts, rapidly becoming the most media covered harpsichordist, to the point of attracting to the instrument, thanks to his performance, a variegated public of which a good part should never have got interested in the harpsichord but for him.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But already there was an urgency. When Catherine Perrin saw him in 1984, at a time when the rumour about AIDS was swelling in a terrifying rumble, he confided with her of his fears. He actually had had bronchitis, the winter before, which had degenerated in pneumonia, and knowing that this was one of the associated diseases, he said he was “mort de trouille” (he got the wind up). And he added that he didn’t want to do the test because he was sure to get confirmation of his fears. There may lie part of the reason for the intense activity which he spread during his last years.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In April 1989, he went to Rome, at the Villa Médicis, where he gave a masterclass for the French Television. One can see him very thinned down and weakened by the attacks of the disease. As he had no Social Security (Medicare), he did not take care of himself well, and it is also possible that he saw no good reason for looking after himself correctly. I have been told that he took whatever he could find as medicine, and one might speculate that (but what is it that couldn’t be done with ‘ifs’) maybe he would have survived, with good medical care.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Actually, he was an illegal alien for the French administration who wanted to have him expelled, and would have, had it not been for the intervention of some friends of him, of which some influent members of the Regional Council for Culture, who represented the Prefect how silly he would have looked for the media, if this happened.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the course of his last months, he was looked after by his friends, especially David Ley, harpsichord maker, who had built his second double manual instrument, and Monique Davos, who had been an assistant director for the first Festival de Radio-France et de Montpelier, in 1983. According to testimonials, there was a sort of competition between both these persons for the care of Scott, and Mrs Davos was an advocate of the use of intensive medication. It seems that this was the cause of a Homeric struggle between her and those who wished him to die in peace. It was James Ross Jr. who finally brought Scott back to Assas, by the end of May.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On the following June 13, he passed away in his little house in Assas. His brother James, who had insisted upon coming to see him, assisted him right at the end. As, obviously, Scott had prepared nothing for the circumstances, it is James who took care of everything and it is he who asked for the rights of his records to be paid to the profit of an organization devised to help young harpsichordists. Tem, sobre muitos dos outros, a enorme vantagem de estar vivo. Tem ainda 36 anos, pelo que ainda terá muito para gravar. Curiosamente, a irmã também se dedica à música: &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.orlishaham.com/" target="blank" rel="_nofollow"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;é a pianista Orli Shaham&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;Toca belissimamente.&lt;br /&gt;O meu primeiro contacto com ele foi &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/1057186/a/Mendelssohn,+Bruch:+Violin+Concertos+%2F+Shaham,+Sinopoli.htm" target="blank" rel="_nofollow"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;através da gravação que fez dos concertos de Mendelssohn e Bruch&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;, com o já falecido maestro Giuseppe Sinopoli (que &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/1288862.stm" target="blank" rel="_nofollow"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;teve uma morte trágica enquanto dirigia a Aïda, de Verdi&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;, em Berlim, no ano 2001).&lt;br /&gt;Americano de ascendência israelita, Shaham raia a perfeição, tecnicamente. Enérgico e exuberante, mas sem ponta &lt;em&gt;show-off&lt;/em&gt;. Tem muitos momentos em que faz lembrar o inatingível "som Heifetz".&lt;br /&gt;Para além disso, é muito, mas mesmo muito simpático. Vi-o ao vivo na Gulbenkian e agia, com toda a naturalidade, como se fosse, para ele, um privilégio estar com o público.&lt;br /&gt;Do muito (e bom) que se encontra na internet deste intérprete, deixo aqui três vídeos. Nos dois primeiros, toca a Fantasia Carmen, de Sarasate. Walter mostra-se, aqui, como um excelente maestro romântico, sendo de pasmar a mão que tem na orquestra, perfeitamente perceptível. A gravação é excelente, muitíssimo bem recuperada, não dando indícios de ser tão antiga (entre 1959 e 1961). São, sem dúvida, dos melhores CDs que tenho.&lt;br /&gt;Berlinense judeu nascido em 1876, após um fugaz início como pianista, Bruno Walter começou a sua carreira de maestro na ópera de Breslau, pela mão de Mahler, em 1896, altura em em que deixou de usar o apelido Schlesinger, que denunciava as suas origens judaicas. Passou depois pela Eslováquia, pela Letónia, regressou a Berlim, rumou a Viena, onde se manteve durante o início do século XX, tendo-se naturalizado austríaco. Em 1913 seguiu para Munique e, em 1923, partiu para os Estados Unidos. Entre 1924 e 1933 continuou a sua carreira de sucesso na Europa, mas, nesse ano, o partido nazi começou a boicotar-lhe algum trabalho. Naquele ano, mudou-se para a Áustria. Em 1938, foi para França, cuja cidadania adoptou, após a anexação da Áustria pela Alemanha. Em 1939, partiu, finalmente, para os Estados Unidos, onde viveu até ao fim dos seus dias. As melhores gravações (refiro-me apenas à qualidade sonora) de toda a sua discografia são as dos últimos anos, com a Orquestra Sinfónia de Columbia, embora haja, em MONO, interpretações fabulosas de Mahler (incluindo uma notável primeira gravação que fez da 9ª sinfonia). De entre elas, destacam-se estas gravações de Brahms. Uma interpretação do concerto para violino de Tchaikovsky que Hitler supostamente apreciava era do violinista judeu Bronislaw Huberman (fundador da Orquestra da Palestina, que deu origem à Orquestra Filarmónica de Israel). A principal acusação de que é alvo refere um nível técnico elevado que não encontra paralelo numa compreensão intelectual-cultural-racional da obra. No fundo, técnica sem alma. Ora, foi precisamente a percepção contrária que, desde as primeiras audições, me surpreendeu no pianista. Parece-me - ainda que, ocasionalmente, ceda a algum &lt;em&gt;show-off&lt;/em&gt; (e quantos consagrados empolgados não o fizeram?) - um intérprete que pensa as obras e, à sua maneira, sente-as muito para além da técnica. Neste particular, continua a convencer-me bem mais do que o outro consagrado chinês, Yundi Li.&lt;br /&gt;Não pode dizer-se que este seja um disco para cinco estrelas, mas, quanto a mim, são quatro estrelas seguras. Quanto à técnica, continuamos a encontrar a força, o som límpido, "as notas todas", claras e definidas e a aparente simplicidade dos segmentos de execução mais complexa.&lt;br /&gt;Quanto ao "resto", e especialmente no que diz respeito ao quarto concerto (o mais difícil de interpretar), não será, eventualmente, a interpretação mais madura e profunda que já ouvi, mas é suficientemente interessante para vermos nela algo mais do que a demonstração técnica de um menino-prodígio.&lt;br /&gt;A comprar. Durante muito tempo, pensei que Loussier era um pianista de &lt;em&gt;jazz&lt;/em&gt; convertido a alguns sons da música clássica. Depois de ouvir os consagrados nas etiquetas principais, a desilusão inicial pode tirar-nos toda a vontade de explorar mais e empurrar-nos para a solução fácil de só ouvir o Rachmaninov do Horowitz ou o Sibelius do Heifetz.&lt;br /&gt;No entanto, após algumas conversas animadoras com pessoas que tiveram mais sorte (ou paciência) que eu nas audições, resolvi contrariar a minha primeira falta de curiosidade. Que diabo: uma etiqueta com mais de 5000 títulos tem de ter coisas boas, que escapam às malhas dos "grandes", por qualquer razão, e, com CDs a 5 euros, pode valer a pena procurar.&lt;br /&gt;Resolvi pagar um ano de acesso online aos CDs da Naxos, no site oficial, com reprodução em stream de qualquer disco do catálogo (20 euros, mais ou menos) e comecei a procurar, cruzando experiências minhas com relatos de amigos e críticas que encontrei na net.&lt;br /&gt;O primeiro embate não prometeu grande coisa. Ouvi o meu concerto favorito para fagote, de Vivaldi (RV 484, em mi menor). Fiquei mal impressionado, em primeiro lugar, porque a obra não aparece em nenhum dos 4 volumes (&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.naxos.com/catalogue/item.asp?item_code=8.555937" target="blank" rel="_nofollow"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;1&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;, &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.naxos.com/catalogue/item.asp?item_code=8.555938" target="blank" rel="_nofollow"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;2&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;, &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.naxos.com/catalogue/item.asp?item_code=8.557556" target="blank" rel="_nofollow"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;3&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;, &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.naxos.com/catalogue/item.asp?item_code=8.557829" target="blank" rel="_nofollow"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;4&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;) da integral (?) dos "concertos para fagote de Vivaldi" da Naxos. Aqui, só se for o pão...&lt;br /&gt;O dito RV 484 acaba por encontrar-se &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.naxos.com/catalogue/item.asp?item_code=8.550386"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;num outro CD Naxos, com o título "VIVALDI: Wind and Brass Concertos"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;, numa intepretação de Frantisek Hermann (fagote), acompanhado pela Capella Istropolitana, dirigida por Jaroslav Krecek.&lt;br /&gt;Ouvi.&lt;br /&gt;Não estando mal, é absolutamente pulverizada pela &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.amazon.com/Vivaldi-Bassoon-Concertos-Thunemann/dp/B0000ARNFB" target="blank" rel="_nofollow"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;interpretação que tenho por Klaus Thunemann (fagote) e "I Musici"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;Segunda desilusão, portanto, embora menor do que as anteriores.&lt;br /&gt;À terceira, seria de vez?&lt;br /&gt;Foi.&lt;br /&gt;Li mais, procurei melhor, e comecei a encontrar gravações realmente interessantes, principalmente à medida que me afastava das peças mais tocadas (mas não só...).&lt;br /&gt;Vou começar até, neste primeiro &lt;em&gt;post&lt;/em&gt; dedicado ao assunto (pois, pelo que vou descobrindo, haverá muitos mais), por uma obra conhecida: a primeira sinfonia de Rachmaninov.&lt;br /&gt;Descobri uma gravação muito boa, &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.naxos.com/catalogue/item.asp?item_code=8.550806" target="blank" rel="_nofollow"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;pela Orquestra Sinfónica Nacional da Irlanda, dirigida por Alexander Anissimov&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;"&gt;. Bem gravado, bem executado.
